The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Jos has started an indefinite strike. The decision was made because their June salaries have not been paid.
ASUU announced that the strike would begin at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4.
The announcement came in a press release signed by Professor Jurbe Molwus, the ASUU chairman at UniJos. The press statement was shared with news reporters in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday.
Professor Molwus said that the strike was the result of a decision made during their congress on June 4, 2025.
In the statement, ASUU told its members to stop attending lectures and meetings if their June salaries were still unpaid by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
This move follows a rule set by the ASUU National Executive Council, which allows university branches to take action if salaries are delayed beyond the third day of a new month.
The statement also reminded members that the congress had already agreed on this action during their June 4 meeting.
Professor Molwus said the strike would begin right at midnight on July 4.
He asked all ASUU members at UniJos to fully support and follow the strike directive until they are told to stop.
He also mentioned that a special team would be watching to make sure everyone follows the strike properly.
