The Labour Party group led by Julius Abure has given Peter Obi two days to leave the party after he joined a new political alliance.
The warning came in a statement signed by Obiora Ifoh, the group’s spokesperson, on Thursday in Abuja.
Ifoh said Abure’s Labour Party does not support the new coalition and does not want to be part of it. He also accused the people in the coalition of being selfish and only after power, not the good of the people.
According to him, the promise of a “New Nigeria” cannot be achieved by bringing together old and recycled politicians who have failed in the past.
Ifoh added that many of the politicians in the coalition are the same people who mismanaged Nigeria before. He said they are too desperate to bring about any real change.
He also claimed that Peter Obi has been secretly meeting with some Labour Party members, trying to get them to join him in the new coalition. However, many of them refused to go with him.
The party clearly stated that it is not part of the coalition. Any member involved with it has 48 hours to resign from the Labour Party.
They said the party won’t allow people who are not fully loyal. Anyone trying to play double roles—staying in Labour during the day and joining another group at night—will not be accepted.
Labour Party said young Nigerians make up about 70% of the population, and they are tired of the same old leaders. The party believes the new coalition does not reflect the dreams and hopes of the youth.
According to Ifoh, those in the coalition are only trying to return to power and are not truly interested in building a better Nigeria.
He said the Labour Party is the only party that can help build the kind of Nigeria people are hoping for, and the party is ready to lead that journey.
Finally, he urged all Labour Party members to stay loyal and keep the party strong ahead of upcoming elections.
