Saboteurs are working against corruption-free transformation — NNPC raises alarm

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has raised the alarm, saying that some people are working behind the scenes to stop its new reforms. The company said these people are trying to stop efforts to make NNPC more honest and effective.

Since Bayo Ojulari became the new boss of NNPC on April 2, replacing Mele Kyari, the company said it has faced several attacks. According to NNPC, a group of people both inside and outside the company are trying to cause trouble and stop the reforms from going forward.

NNPC shared in a statement on Friday, June 27, that it had discovered a group of known and unknown people trying to sabotage its progress. These individuals are reportedly spreading lies and false information to damage the company’s image and stop its leadership from making positive changes.

The company said that this group is sharing made-up and harmful stories in the media. Their goal is to distract the leaders, confuse the public, and make it harder for honest people working at NNPC to continue pushing for change.

NNPC also said that these people are scared of reforms that bring openness and responsibility. That’s why they are going to great lengths to fight against changes that will help the company become better.

Even though NNPC expects more false reports in the coming days, it says the team will not give up. The company is confident that the transformation will continue. It called on its staff, partners, and all Nigerians who care about progress to stay focused and not be discouraged by the noise.

Lastly, NNPC noted that it hasn’t yet named someone to replace its former spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, who stepped down on June 22.
