There seems to be peace again in Rivers State, as former Governor Nyesom Wike said that Sim Fubara has now agreed to work together with him and others involved in the political crisis.
This follows a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday night, June 26, where President Bola Tinubu brought both leaders together at the State House to settle their differences.
The peace talk also included suspended lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly. These lawmakers, who had earlier clashed with Governor Fubara, have now made peace with him.
Speaking after the meeting, Wike told newsmen that the governor has finally agreed to work with everyone. He said the crisis has ended, and they can now focus on moving the state forward.
‘’We thank God that peace has finally returned to the state. We have all agreed to work together with the governor and the governor has agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family. Like humans, we all have agreement and then you also have a time to also settle your disagreement. and that has been finally concluded today and we have come to report to the President that this is what we have agreed. For me, everything is over and I enjoin everybody who believe to work with us to also work together with everybody that there is no more acrimony , there is nothing to say we are disagreeing. We have all agreed on everything and so we thank God”.
Also speaking, Fubara said
‘’For me, it is important that this day has come to be. What we need for the progress of Rivers state is peace and by the special grace of God, this night, with the help of Mr President and the agreement of the leaders of the state, peace has returned in Rivers state”
President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, due to the ongoing political tension between Fubara and Wike. Their disagreement came from failed political agreements and power struggles.
Now, with the peace agreement in place, there’s hope that the emergency rule in the state will soon be lifted.
