President Bola Tinubu has said that building new bus and taxi terminals in Abuja is a major step forward in improving how people move around the city.
He made this statement on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during the official opening of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, located in the Kugbo area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Senator Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Tinubu at the event, explained that the Kugbo terminal and the others in Mabushi and the Central Area are well-planned centers made to improve the travel experience by making it safer and more organized.
He pointed out that these terminals are carefully designed to help people travel in a safe and orderly way. Vehicles and drivers will now be clearly identified and registered, which helps reduce the risks of using informal or roadside transport. The terminals also have CCTV cameras for better security.
Tinubu said his government is still focused on its ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’. He reminded the public that they promised to rebuild the country’s infrastructure and improve people’s lives. According to him, this terminal is one of many steps they are taking to fulfill that promise.
He also praised the hard work of FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, and encouraged people in Abuja to make good use of the terminal. He asked them to follow the rules, use the terminal responsibly, and not to board vehicles on the road.
He warned against using unsafe roadside transport, saying the government has now provided a safer option. He added that this new terminal is just one part of a larger plan to improve infrastructure and public services all over Nigeria.
During the event, Minister Wike thanked President Tinubu for his support. He said the terminals will not be run by the government, but by private companies who know how to manage them well. This will also help the government collect revenue.
Wike also warned residents that if they choose to wait by the roadside and something bad happens, they are doing so at their own risk. He said the government has done its part by providing a safe place to board buses and taxis.
He explained that civil servants or politicians shouldn’t manage such businesses, because they may not handle them properly. He believes private management will keep the terminals working well and avoid failure.
Wike further said the FCT Administration will build more terminals in places like Bwari and Gwagwalada to make safe transport available to more people.
Hon. Chinedum Elechi, who oversees transport in the FCT, said the Kugbo terminal’s location was carefully chosen. It will serve both people traveling within Abuja and those coming from nearby towns like Karu, Nyanya, Karshi, Maraba, and Keffi.
He also mentioned that the terminal will operate 24 hours a day and is built to handle a large number of passengers every day.
