Kenneth Okonkwo, a well-known actor, lawyer, and politician, has shared that the All Democratic Party (ADA) will allow people from every region in Nigeria to run for its presidential ticket.
Okonkwo, who was once the spokesperson for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential elections, explained that the ADA will give everyone a chance to contest. He said this during an interview on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics.”
According to him, the new party wants to respect both democracy and the constitution. He made it clear that no one will be blocked from trying to become the presidential candidate of the party.
“I’ve made it very clear—no one will be stopped from contesting. Everyone can join the race,” he said.
He added that trusting politicians has become difficult, especially when they make promises like serving only one term. Okonkwo mentioned that if someone from the South, like Tinubu, is underperforming and wants to continue, it could create tension and injustice.
He explained that if another Southerner gets the seat, they might want to stay for another eight years, and the North will likely see that as unfair.
To avoid this kind of problem, he suggested that the best idea is to open the contest to all zones. He said once the best person emerges, others can support him or her, especially if that person promises to serve only one term.
Recently, news broke that a coalition of top political figures has come together to support the new party, ADA, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
This group includes big names like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, Labour Party’s former candidate Peter Obi, and former Senate President David Mark.
Together, they are preparing to make a strong political impact in the next election through the ADA platform.
