Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has raised concerns about how insecurity and corruption are harming Nigeria. He said both issues are not only taking lives but also damaging how the world sees the country.
He asked President Bola Tinubu to quickly improve his government’s plan to fight these problems and keep Nigerians safe.
On his official X (Twitter) page, Obi, who is also a former governor of Anambra State, said he was deeply worried that killings are happening so often in Nigeria that people are starting to see them as normal.
He explained that the frequent killing of innocent people has become so common that it no longer shocks the public. He said this shows how bad things have gotten in the country.
Obi listed some recent violent attacks in various states and said the situation is now out of hand.
He added that many killings are never even reported in the news, which means the violence is worse than people think. For a country that is not at war, he said, the situation is frightening.
Obi also pointed out that the government’s silence or weak actions are making Nigerians feel that their leaders don’t care about their suffering. He said this lack of response is very painful, especially for families who have lost loved ones.
He stressed again that if the government doesn’t deal with insecurity and corruption seriously, Nigeria’s name will continue to suffer globally. According to him, this is harming the country’s image around the world.
Finally, Obi advised President Tinubu to take criticism seriously and use it as helpful advice. He urged the president to act fast to stop the growing violence and insecurity in Nigeria.
