2027: ‘Sharks will swallow younger ones up’ – Okonkwo names preferred candidate to battle Tinubu

Kenneth Okonkwo, who used to speak for Peter Obi during the 2023 elections, has now shared who he supports for the 2027 presidential race. He believes only someone experienced can stand against President Tinubu and the ruling party.

While speaking on Channels Television, Okonkwo said Nigeria’s politics is too tough for young or new candidates. He described it as full of “sharks” who would easily defeat someone without enough political experience.

He said Nigeria needs a leader from the older generation who understands the system but also wants to make the country better. In his view, only someone like that can succeed.

He used Atiku Abubakar as an example, saying if Atiku had become president and returned Nigeria to the way things were under Obasanjo, he would have been seen as a great leader.

According to Okonkwo, leaders who were not in top government roles in the past usually fail when they try to run the country. He believes Nigeria needs someone experienced, honest, and determined to change things.

He even said that a popular leader like Barack Obama would not win an election in Nigeria. Not because people wouldn’t support him, but because the system would cheat him.

Okonkwo said the real problem is Nigeria’s political system. He thinks it must be changed completely before real progress can happen.

When asked if he trusts a coalition of leaders from PDP and APC—parties Nigerians no longer trust—he gave a careful reply.

He explained that if Atiku became president and was able to stop borrowing money, improve security, and return Nigeria to better days like under Obasanjo, people would see him as a hero. He also pointed out that Atiku is the only politician since 1999 who has actually been in the presidency.
