The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Wasiu Akinwande, who is better known as Olori Eso. He has been on the run for years and was described as the most dangerous hired killer in Lagos.
He was caught in Agbado, Ogun State, during a special police operation called “Silence, Speed and Surprise.” The operation was planned and carried out by the police Tactical Squad.
Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin said Akinwande had caused a lot of fear in the Mushin area and nearby communities. He had managed to escape arrest many times before now.
Police said he led a group of killers and had been involved in many serious crimes. They also found weapons and other items during a search of his hideout.
He has been connected to crimes like murder, cult violence, robbery, and kidnapping. These crimes reportedly took place over a period of more than ten years.
SP Hundeyin said arresting Akinwande was a major success. The police believe this will help reduce violent crimes and bring peace to areas affected by his actions.
After searching his home, the police recovered a lot of weapons and other important items. Akinwande told the police that he and his gang used them to carry out their attacks.
The recovered items included two AK-47 rifles, a K2 assault rifle, a Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action guns, two locally made pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56mm bullets, and 27 rounds of 9mm bullets. They also found one used bullet, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports with different names.
Police said Akinwande’s crimes caused deep pain and fear among many families. His actions left lasting emotional scars on his victims and their loved ones.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Moshood Jimoh, has directed top officers at the State Criminal Investigation Department to lead a wider investigation. The goal is to find and arrest other people connected to Akinwande’s criminal group.
Four families have already come forward, saying Akinwande was the one who killed their loved ones.
He is now being held in police custody under strong security. The police said he will be taken to court and face the full punishment under the law.
