Popular Nigerian actress and activist Kate Henshaw has shared her disappointment about the current condition of Nigeria.
She mentioned that despite 26 years of continuous democratic rule, there’s little progress to show for it, and that many Nigerians do not feel the benefits of democracy.
Henshaw shared her thoughts during a special programme on Channels Television that focused on Democracy Day.
According to her, it doesn’t make sense to celebrate democracy when it fails to meet the basic needs of the people.
She questioned the importance of Nigeria’s democracy when it does not reflect in the lives of everyday citizens.
She said that the middle class has almost disappeared and that people can no longer lie to themselves about the true situation of the country.
Henshaw stressed that every part of the country’s economy is falling apart, and most Nigerians are barely surviving.
Despite the hardship, she urged Nigerians to stay strong and not remain silent. She believes leaders must be held responsible for their actions.
She said the country must stand for fairness, justice, and safety — both for the people and their belongings.
Even with all the challenges, Henshaw remains hopeful that Nigeria can still become a better place for future generations.
