Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles’ leading striker, has turned down a huge offer from Saudi Arabia. Al-Hilal was ready to pay him £25 million per year, but Osimhen has chosen to wait for other opportunities, especially in Europe.
The 26-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, was offered a massive deal by Al-Hilal after they agreed to pay the release clause in his contract. Still, Osimhen declined their offer.
Reports from Football Italia say Osimhen prefers to stay in Europe and continue competing at a high level. He isn’t interested in moving to the Saudi Pro League right now.
During his season in Turkey, Osimhen scored an impressive 37 goals in 41 appearances. His performance has drawn attention from several major European clubs, including Manchester United, who are said to be interested under their new manager Ruben Amorim.
Al-Hilal had hoped to sign Osimhen to boost their squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. They made an initial offer that was rejected but later agreed to pay the full €75 million (about £63.2 million) release clause. This clause applies only to clubs outside Italy’s Serie A.
With Napoli looking to sell Osimhen this summer, several top clubs are watching closely. It’s expected that he could be on the move soon, and big names in football are lining up.
Eric Chelle, the manager of Mali’s national team and someone who works with Osimhen at the international level, spoke highly of the striker. In an interview with the BBC, he called Osimhen the best striker in the world.
Chelle explained that the striker has been under a lot of pressure throughout the season. He said it’s tough for Osimhen to fully focus on international matches when he’s also dealing with big transfer decisions.
He added that Osimhen’s next club could be one of Europe’s giants like Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, or Real Madrid. For now, Osimhen is staying focused and taking his time to decide the best move for his career.
