Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface made fans talk after he posted a message on Instagram that looked like he was planning to retire from playing for Nigeria.
This message came shortly after Nigeria played a 1-1 draw against Russia in a friendly match that took place in Moscow.
Boniface was on the field for 61 minutes before he was taken off by coach Eric Chelle, who brought in Tolu Arokodare. Arokodare later scored the equalizer for the Super Eagles.
In his post, Boniface showed his appreciation for being part of the national team. He said he was thankful for every moment — both the good and the bad — that he experienced while playing for Nigeria.
He also wrote that it was a dream come true to represent the country, and he ended the message by saying, “I don hang boot”, which is a way of saying he’s retiring from football.
However, not long after he posted it, Boniface deleted the message, which left fans wondering if he was serious or just expressing emotions.
The 24-year-old forward made his debut for Nigeria in September 2023 in a match against São Tomé and Príncipe. Since then, he has not yet scored a goal for the Super Eagles.
Whether or not this is the end of his time with the national team remains unclear, but fans are waiting for more updates from the player or the football authorities.
