A federal lawmaker from Ondo State, Donald Ojogo, has spoken out strongly against former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. Ojogo is upset about Malami’s recent criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for supporting President Bola Tinubu to run for a second term, even while Nigeria faces many serious problems.
Malami made his comments at a meeting held in Abuja by a northern political group. He said the APC is not paying attention to big national issues like insecurity, economic hardship, and poverty. Instead, the party is already focusing on the 2027 elections by backing Tinubu for another term.
He pointed out that just days ago, the APC held a national summit and chose to focus on Tinubu’s re-election instead of solving the country’s pressing problems. Malami said the election is still two years away, so it should not be the main focus right now.
Ojogo quickly responded by calling Malami’s statements hypocritical and dishonest. He said he wasn’t speaking for the Presidency or the APC, but as a concerned Nigerian, he couldn’t stay silent. He reminded people that Malami himself had a questionable record when he was in office during President Buhari’s administration.
Ojogo said Malami’s comments were hard to take seriously because he did not live up to the same standards when he had power. He believes Malami is now pretending to care about issues that he ignored in the past.
The lawmaker also accused Malami of getting in the way of efforts to improve security in the South-West. He said this happened especially during the time of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ondo State, when Ojogo served as Commissioner for Information.
According to Ojogo, if Akeredolu and other southern leaders had listened to Malami’s objections, the kidnapping and violence in the region would have been even worse. He praised the governors for standing firm and taking action to protect their people.
Ojogo didn’t stop there. He also criticized Malami for being against the idea of state police, which many believe could help improve local security. He said Malami has a biased and narrow understanding of federalism, which is hurting the country’s progress.
