PDP Crisis: I’ll fight until justice is attained -Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that he is stepping back from all past agreements made to fix the issues troubling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said he would keep fighting until justice is achieved.

This decision was made public in a statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” which Wike personally signed and released on Sunday.

In the statement, Wike mentioned that he had told the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that he is the main reason for the current problems in the PDP. He blamed Makinde for not sticking to agreements, saying that was why the party is facing serious challenges.

According to Wike, since the 2023 general elections, the PDP has been dealing with a lot of instability because of dishonesty and broken trust among its leaders.

To fix this, the party had tried to bring back unity and rebuild trust by following through with previous promises. A G5 meeting in Lagos was one of those efforts. During that meeting, Wike told Governor Makinde again that he caused the problems by not following agreements. The group decided to put their differences aside and move forward.

Later, a larger meeting was held in Abuja at Bukola Saraki’s guest house. It included Seyi Makinde, Umaru Fintri, Bala Mohammed, and others. Wike said he didn’t have a personal issue with Bala Mohammed but pointed out that Mohammed had often broken agreements while pretending to lead the governors’ forum fairly.

That meeting ended with some clear agreements. Senator Samuel Anyanwu was confirmed as the National Secretary of PDP, based on a Supreme Court judgment. Legal cases relating to Rivers State were to be withdrawn, and everyone agreed not to go against these decisions.

Wike said they asked him to attend another meeting at the Bauchi Government Lodge, and even though he was busy, he went. He repeated his concerns, and a new committee led by Bukola Saraki was set up to solve the remaining problems.

However, Wike said it was sad and frustrating that even before the committee began its work, the previous agreements were already being broken.

He accused Makinde and Enugu Governor Peter Mba of organizing a meeting with South-East PDP leaders, who said they would leave the party if Ude Okoye was not made Secretary. Wike rejected this demand, saying it had no legal standing.

Wike also said that Makinde got people in the PDP National Secretariat to push for the Deputy National Secretary to act as the National Secretary, again going against earlier agreements. A letter was even sent out calling for a party meeting, signed by the Deputy instead of the legally recognized Secretary.

He mentioned another case where a letter approving the PDP’s governorship candidate for the Anambra election—signed by the National Secretary and Acting National Chairman—was wrongly dismissed by another party member, acting under Makinde and Mba’s orders.

Wike said all these actions went against what was agreed and were only harming the party further.

On May 24, 2025, in Jos, a PDP congress was canceled because the letter inviting INEC was signed by the wrong person. INEC didn’t show up since Senator Anyanwu, who is the recognized signatory, didn’t sign it.

Wike said this kind of behavior is annoying and disrespectful. He wanted PDP members and Nigerians to know the truth. He reminded everyone that he had been in the party since 1998 and had worked hard to keep it alive. He said none of those causing the current problems have done as much as he has.

He also said he helped many of the governors win elections but never asked them for anything in return.

Wike added that he had hoped for trust among party leaders. But now that it’s clear that some people will keep playing political games, like what happened in the North-Central elections, he is pulling out of all earlier agreements.

He ended his statement by saying he will continue to fight until justice is achieved.
