Seven teenage girls have been arrested in Gauteng, South Africa, after a video showing them bullying another girl spread quickly on social media.
The girls, who are between 13 and 14 years old, were arrested on Sunday, May 18, 2025. After being taken by the police, they were released to their parents’ care.
The police said the arrests happened because the video made many people angry online. Lots of people asked the police to step in and help.
The girls are accused of attacking another teenage girl in Bellevue, Johannesburg, on May 10, 2025.
They face charges of common assault and are expected to go to court on Monday, May 19, 2025.
In the video, the girl who was bullied is sitting on a bed while other girls stand around her.
Four of the girls then come closer to the girl on the bed. After an argument, one of the girls slaps her.
The girl on the bed does not fight back. She stays seated and covers her face with her hands.
The police confirmed that they opened a case of common assault at the local police station and later found and arrested the girls involved.
