Former Arsenal and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette experienced a shocking incident during a special moment in his career. While he was on the pitch playing his final football match before retirement, burglars broke into his home.
Lacazette was taking part in his 391st and final match for Lyon, marking the end of a long and successful career. Sadly, the joyful moment was interrupted by news of a robbery at his home on Saturday night.
French news outlet Le Progrès reported that two thieves broke into the footballer’s house and managed to access a safe inside. Reports say they stole valuable items including jewellery, luxury leather goods, and a large amount of cash. The total loss is believed to be worth tens of thousands of pounds.
The burglary was reported around 1:30 am on Sunday. Security cameras captured two individuals at the scene, leading local police to begin an investigation.
At the time, Lacazette was playing for Lyon in a Ligue 1 match against Angers. He had previously spent five years playing for Arsenal in the Premier League.
Earlier in the week, Lyon’s coach Paulo Fonseca had confirmed that Lacazette would leave the club at the end of the season as his contract comes to an end. Fans honoured him before the game, showing appreciation for his career and achievements.
Despite the bad news, Lacazette gave fans a memorable performance. He scored both goals in Lyon’s 2-0 win over Angers. These goals pushed his total to over 200 for Lyon — the club where he began his career as a young player.
Sadly, Lacazette’s experience isn’t unique. In December, another Lyon player, Georges Mikautadze, was robbed at gunpoint.
The incident has cast a shadow over Lacazette’s farewell, but fans continue to celebrate his incredible contributions to the sport.
