Police officers in Taraba State have arrested two people and recovered six locally made guns during a special operation. The action was taken after a series of violent clashes between farmers and herders in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, James Leshen, said the suspects were caught during a well-planned operation aimed at stopping the people responsible for recent attacks in the area.
This joint operation happened on Tuesday, 14th May 2025, at around 12 p.m., and the information was shared with journalists on Friday.
The operation involved different police units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the 40 PMF, and officers from the Karim Lamido Division. The team was led by CSP Ayuba Yohanna.
According to the police, the operation was in response to violent fights between farmers and herders in the region, which have caused fear and tension.
The police team went to a Fulani settlement in Wuro Guga, near Jen. They believed the location was a meeting place for herders linked to attacks on Munga Dosso and Bandawa villages. These attacks happened three times and led to the deaths of around ten people.
When the police arrived, the suspects ran into a nearby forest. After searching the area, officers found six homemade guns. These included one locally made revolver pistol, one revolver gun, four single-barrel guns, and nine bullets.
In addition, two other people were arrested while trying to set fire to huts left behind by Fulani people who had left the area due to the conflict.
Police say their investigation is still ongoing and they are working to find the suspects who escaped. They are also focused on bringing peace and safety back to the community.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Bretet, praised the officers for their fast and professional response. He promised that the police would continue to work hard to keep the state safe. He also warned that anyone causing trouble will face the full force of the law.
