EFCC arraigns Chinese man in Lagos

A Chinese man named Li Kuang Kuang has been brought before a court in Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He is being accused of cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

The EFCC said in a statement released on Thursday that Kuang appeared in court before Justice Daniel Osiagor at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. He was charged with one count related to cybercrime.

Kuang was one of the 792 people arrested during a large operation called the “Eagle Flush Operation,” which took place on December 19, 2024.

The EFCC said this operation was aimed at a group believed to be running fake cryptocurrency investments and online romance scams.

According to the court charge, Kuang and a company called Genting International Co. Limited were accused of using a computer system to damage Nigeria’s economy and social systems in December 2024. This action goes against Nigeria’s cybercrime law.

Kuang pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The EFCC lawyer, U.S. Kyari, asked the court to set a trial date and to keep Kuang in a correctional center until the case is heard.

Justice Osiagor agreed and ordered Kuang to be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Center. The case will continue on July 18, 2025.
