A 50-year-old man named Bashar Abubakar has been arrested for helping bandits in Katsina State by giving them food and petrol.
Bashar, who is from Gwarzo town in Kano State, was caught by local vigilante members in his community.
A security expert, Zagazola Makama, shared a video showing Bashar admitting that he gave petrol to the group at least once. He said it was just a gallon.
When asked about a woman who helped deliver the petrol, Bashar said he didn’t know her name. He explained that the group sent her to collect the items from him.
He also said that he bought food items like soft drinks, water, bread, and rice for the group. However, he didn’t take the items to them. Instead, the bandits came to town to pick them up, sometimes from a place owned by someone called Alhaji Bello.
When asked if he thought his actions were right, Bashar didn’t give a straight answer. Instead, he talked about how the group forced people to pay money. He mentioned a case where a boy was asked to pay a ransom and said the Fulani in the group decided the amount, though he couldn’t remember it.
The boy had been accused of stealing diesel from trucks, and the group judged him. Bashar said he had no part in deciding the punishment and claimed the group handled it themselves.
Bashar also said he didn’t get any reward or payment for helping the bandits. He confirmed that everything he said in the interview was true.
