Nnamdi Kanu: Monday sit-at-home had nothing to do with death of Jonathan’s ex-aide, Gulak – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have spoken out, saying they are not responsible for the killing of Ahmed Gulak. Gulak was a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Emma Powerful, who speaks for IPOB, explained that the group’s sit-at-home order happened on Monday, May 31, 2021. Gulak was killed the day before, on Sunday, May 30, 2021.

He also said that using Gulak’s death certificate in the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu doesn’t prove anything in the case.

In his statement, Powerful said the case against Kanu has already failed and no strong evidence remains.

He called on the media to report fairly. According to him, a witness in court admitted there was no investigation report to back the political charges against Kanu.

Powerful added that the death certificate of Gulak has no real use in the trial and doesn’t help prove IPOB’s involvement.

He also accused the government lawyer, Awomolo SAN, of trying to sneak in new evidence after already finishing his main arguments. He said this was dishonest and not allowed.

Powerful made it clear that IPOB’s sit-at-home to remember Biafra Day was on May 31, 2021. Since Gulak was killed a day before, the events are not connected at all.

He said the timeline proves that IPOB was not involved and trying to blame them is not just wrong—it’s criminal.

Powerful also said this isn’t the first time the Nigerian government has spread false stories to hurt IPOB or the Igbo people.

He compared it to the 1966 coup, where Igbos were wrongly blamed, and said IPOB is now being blamed for every violent event in the South East, even when they had nothing to do with it.
