Why PDP may not field presidential candidate in 2027 – Wike’s aide, Olayinka

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may not be able to present a candidate for the 2027 presidential election. This was shared by Lere Olayinka, who works closely with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Olayinka, the party is currently facing a serious problem over who is the real National Secretary. This disagreement is causing major issues inside the party.

The conflict is between two people—Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye. Both claim they are the rightful National Secretary, even though the Supreme Court has given a ruling on the matter.

The whole issue started when Anyanwu left his role in 2023 to contest for governor in Imo State. While he was away, the PDP leaders from the Southeast chose Ude-Okoye to replace him.

However, after losing the governorship election, Anyanwu returned and tried to take back his position as National Secretary.

This did not go well with Ude-Okoye, who then went to court to challenge Anyanwu’s return. A High Court ruled against Anyanwu, but the Supreme Court’s final judgment in March made the situation more complicated.

Despite all this, Olayinka believes the party’s constitution is clear. He said that unless Anyanwu resigns or dies, he remains the official National Secretary of the PDP.

On X (formerly Twitter), Olayinka posted that when party members start supporting someone else for the Secretary role, it usually means they know they are breaking the rules.

He explained that the PDP constitution and the Supreme Court judgment both confirm Anyanwu’s position. He also added that a deputy can only step in if the main person resigns or passes away—and in this case, Anyanwu has done neither.

To make his point clear, Olayinka repeated what he said four months ago: the PDP may not be able to present a candidate for the 2026 or 2027 elections due to this ongoing crisis.
