Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has condemned the recent attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP militants in various parts of the state. The attacks targeted areas including Maiduguri-Damboa Road, Marte, Chibok, Gwoza, Kala Balge, and several other affected communities.

In a statement released by his spokesperson on Tuesday in Maiduguri, Governor Zulum expressed deep sympathy to the families of those affected by these attacks, particularly an explosion that occurred on May 12 along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road. This attack, carried out with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), tragically claimed the lives of two staff members from the Damboa Local Education Authority. They were on their way to Maiduguri for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) exam. The attack also resulted in the deaths of military personnel and civilians.

Zulum strongly condemned the terrorist attacks, calling them deeply unacceptable. He said the tragic loss of education staff, military personnel, and innocent civilians is a painful reminder of the continuous struggle faced by the people of Borno. He reiterated his commitment to supporting the Federal Government, the Nigerian military, and all security agencies working to tackle insecurity in the region.

The governor recalled his recent visit to Gwoza, where he met with military personnel and the Izge community to discuss ways to strengthen security and build resilience. He emphasized that the surge in attacks would not weaken the resolve of the Borno State government to fight the insurgency that has lasted for 16 years. Zulum urged the people of Borno to stay strong, remain prayerful, and hopeful as they continue to face these challenges.

Concluding his statement, Zulum offered his prayers for the families of those who lost their lives, the injured, and all citizens affected by the attacks. He encouraged the people of Borno to remain united and resilient in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
