Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the hiring of 17,600 security guards to protect public schools across the state. This decision is part of the government’s efforts to make sure that schools are safe for both students and teachers.
A statement shared by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said that 400 guards will be posted to each of the 44 local government areas in the state. This shows how serious the state is about improving security in schools.
The government made this move because of rising fears about insecurity around school areas. These security issues have become a threat to the progress of education in the state.
While speaking at an official event in Kano, Governor Yusuf said the government has a duty to protect children and their teachers. He made it clear that nothing should stop children from getting an education—not even fear or insecurity.
The statement added that the new guards will be properly trained before they start working in the schools. The training will help them understand their roles and responsibilities clearly.
Their main duties will include watching who comes in and out of the school, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious, and working with regular security officers when needed. With this move, the state hopes to make learning environments safer and more peaceful.
