Nigerian Army issues advisory to officers sitting for promotion exams in Edo

The Nigerian Army has warned its officers taking part in the 2025 promotion exams in Edo State to be careful due to ongoing security concerns in the area.

On Sunday, Major-General Adebayo Adegbite, who heads the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), spoke to officers in Benin City. He reminded them to stay cautious while preparing for their exams.

He praised the officers for completing a tough one-month training course. He said the mock exam showed how prepared they were and encouraged them to do well in the real exam.

However, General Adegbite also gave a strong warning about safety. He told the officers to limit their movements, avoid going out alone, and always stay alert in the city of Benin.

He said that hosting the exam at NASST was a great honor and an important part of helping officers grow in their military careers.

Major-General Kevin Aligbe, who leads the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), also spoke at the event. He shared that 86 army captains would be taking the promotion test this year.

He congratulated the candidates, saying this is a big step in their careers and a chance to take on more responsibilities in the Army.

General Aligbe stressed the need for discipline and honesty during the exams. He warned that cheating, talking during the test, or breaking any security rule would lead to disqualification and possible punishment.

He explained that the Army’s promotion system is designed to reward officers based on hard work, skill, and good behavior. This is part of the Army’s goal to build a strong, reliable, and professional force.

He encouraged all the officers to give their best effort, especially those taking the exam for the second time. He reminded them that each person only gets three chances to pass the exam.

To motivate the candidates, General Aligbe announced that the top three officers would get awards, praise letters, and even cash prizes.

Finally, he assured the officers that the exam would be marked fairly and that the Army wants all of them to succeed and move forward in their careers.
