Tinubu to inaugurate national disaster relief fund committee

President Bola Tinubu will officially launch the National Disaster Relief Fund Committee on Tuesday. The event will take place at the Council Chambers of the State House.

The committee will be led by Tony Elumelu, who is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings. The group’s main goal is to set up a solid system that helps Nigeria respond better to disasters and build resilience against climate change.

The new fund will bring together support from both government and private organizations. It will serve as the main place for storing emergency resources used by the federal government and will work alongside agencies already managing disaster responses in the country.

Back in September last year, during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, President Tinubu chose Tony Elumelu to lead the committee as the private sector representative.

Other important people on this committee include the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and ministers in charge of budget, aviation, water resources, and the environment. The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will also be part of the team.

This new move shows the government’s plan to make disaster management more effective and to involve both public and private sectors in preparing Nigeria for future emergencies.
