The Obidient Movement has reacted strongly to recent remarks made by Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC). Sowore claimed that Peter Obi is not really acting like an opposition to President Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Inside Sources, Sowore argued that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, shouldn’t be seen as part of the opposition. According to him, Obi hasn’t shown any real resistance to the government’s actions.
He went further to say that Obi stayed silent even when fuel prices were raised—a major concern for many Nigerians.
In response, Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, defended Peter Obi’s position in the political space. He said Obi remains one of the most talked-about politicians in the country.
Tanko questioned why critics continue to mention Obi if they believe he’s not a strong opposition figure. He pointed out that many political discussions only gain attention when Peter Obi is mentioned.
He even joked that Obi’s every action makes news—whether he speaks, stays silent, or even goes to the bathroom—showing how important he has become in Nigerian politics.
Tanko also took a swipe at Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who recently spoke about Obi during a farewell event for the late Chief Edwin Clark. He criticized Akpabio for using the event to attack Obi’s character instead of focusing on meaningful issues.
He concluded by saying Peter Obi should be allowed to keep challenging the political system for the good of the Nigerian people. The Obidient Movement, he said, will continue to support Obi in this mission.
