Rivers crisis: My spirit has left there – Fubara not eager to return to office

The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has made it clear that he is not in a rush to return to his position.

Fubara made this statement during a service of songs held in Port Harcourt on Sunday, in honour of the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark.

While speaking, Fubara said, “Can’t you see I look even better now? Do you think I still want to go back to that office?”

He went on to say, “My spirit already left that place a long time ago.” His words suggest that he has emotionally moved on from the role.

These comments seemed to be a response to several people at the event who still called him “Governor” and asked for his return.

Fubara also said, “Not everything is about force. Some fights are not worth it. People should focus on what really matters.”

He then told those present to concentrate on remembering Edwin Clark’s life and good works for the Niger Delta region, rather than making the event political.

It should be remembered that President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly after declaring a state of emergency.

Following this, Tinubu appointed a retired naval officer, Ibok-Ete Ibas, as the sole administrator of Rivers State, which is one of Nigeria’s richest oil-producing areas.
