Okpebholo approves establishment of nursing school in Udomy community

Governor Monday Okpebholo has given the green light for a new College of Nursing, Health Sciences, and Technology in his hometown, Udomi, located in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

This comes after the governor signed a new bill into law on May 5, 2025, which was passed earlier the same day by the Edo State House of Assembly.

During the signing, Governor Okpebholo stated that the nursing school will help bring growth, development, and job opportunities to the area. He thanked the lawmakers for their support and called for continued cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

He noted that the Udomi community had long hoped for such development, and the bill now makes that dream a reality. The new law, named “Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025,” sets the foundation for establishing the school and related facilities.

Okpebholo emphasized that the college will open up Uwessan and neighboring communities, bringing in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic growth. He described it as a chance to showcase his administration’s efforts and a major win for Edo State.

The governor praised the state legislators for working hand-in-hand with his government. He expressed confidence that their united efforts would lead to more positive changes for the people of Edo.

Earlier, House Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, who led other lawmakers to the Government House for the bill signing, applauded the governor’s commitment to developing the state. He said the bill was carefully reviewed and approved by the House because of its potential to transform the area.

Agbebaku also stated that the lawmakers acted under the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, specifically Section 100, to officially pass the bill.
