Manchester City’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, has announced that he plans to take a break from football once he parts ways with the club.
While he hasn’t made a final decision about retiring, the seasoned manager admitted that he’s considering stepping away from coaching—at least for a while.
At 54, Guardiola has been with Manchester City for nine years, making it the longest managerial run in his career so far.
Before joining the English side, he led Barcelona for four years and had a three-year spell at Bayern Munich.
In 2023, Guardiola renewed his deal with Manchester City, extending his stay until 2027.
Speaking with ESPN Brasil, Guardiola shared, “I’ll take a break when my contract with City ends. That’s certain. Whether I retire or not, I’m still not sure. I just need a pause.”
When asked how he wants to be remembered, he replied, “I don’t think about that. People will remember me in their own way. I just hope that fans from Barcelona, Bayern, and City enjoyed watching how my teams played.”
Guardiola added that the main goal for every coach is to win games and leave a mark, but for him, it’s more about giving fans a great football experience than worrying about his legacy.
