Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is asking a judge to stop lawyers for his alleged victims from speaking to the media. They say these public comments are making him look bad and could influence the jury before the trial begins.
On April 29, Diddy’s lawyers sent a letter to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian. In the letter, they said even though they already asked for a gag order, some lawyers are still talking to the press. They believe this is hurting Diddy’s chance of a fair trial.
They pointed out that attorney Douglas Wigdor, who represents Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, has made public comments. Wigdor spoke out about a video that reportedly shows Diddy pulling and dragging Cassie by her hair in a hotel hallway back in 2016. Diddy’s team tried to block the video from being shown in court, saying CNN edited it unfairly. But the judge said the video will be allowed as evidence.
Diddy’s lawyers think that if the court doesn’t step in, the negative press will get worse as the trial goes on. They also mentioned another well-known lawyer, Lisa Bloom, who represents another witness. Bloom is also helping former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard, who once worked with Diddy.
In response, Wigdor said he plans to fight the request for a gag order. He believes it’s just an attempt to silence victims and their lawyers. He also said Diddy’s legal team didn’t give any legal examples to back up their request.
This legal fight is part of a growing public case against Diddy, who’s facing multiple accusations.
