Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima, has shared his disappointment with the current administration under President Bola Tinubu. In an interview on ARISE TV, he said his time in office did not meet his expectations.
Baba-Ahmed said he joined the government with hope but was let down by how things were run. He explained that even though he saw Vice President Shettima almost daily, there was no clear role for him. According to him, this is a common issue in past governments too, where vice presidents are often sidelined.
Talking about his experience in the Villa, Baba-Ahmed revealed he only saw President Tinubu three times in passing and never had a one-on-one meeting with him. He said this lack of communication shows that the president is “genuinely isolated.” He believes this is bad for Nigeria because the president is not listening to the people working for him or understanding the real problems Nigerians face.
He added that people close to the president seem disconnected from the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians. Baba-Ahmed said many citizens are losing hope due to hardship, insecurity, and poor governance. He questioned whether the right people are advising the president.
When asked about recent political alliances, Baba-Ahmed said he is not interested in joining any coalition. He repeated his call from an earlier open letter where he asked President Tinubu to step aside before the 2027 elections. He urged the president to allow a younger generation to take over for the sake of national progress.
Baba-Ahmed also criticized Tinubu’s leadership style and the performance of his cabinet. He said many ministers are not fit to handle the country’s challenges, and that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” is more of a campaign slogan than a real plan for development.
He warned that if the government stays focused on 2027 politics instead of current issues, it may lose the chance to make any real change during this term.
