Russia has commended Nigeria for its support of a United Nations resolution aimed at countering the glorification of Nazism. The appreciation was conveyed by Andrey Podyolyshev, Russia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, during a photo exhibition in Abuja.
The exhibition was organized to mark the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, a critical chapter in history that occurred during World War II. Known as one of the deadliest conflicts in human history, the Great Patriotic War was the Soviet Union’s battle against Nazi Germany, and it claimed millions of lives.
The event also served as a platform to honor the victims of this devastating conflict, while raising awareness about the risks associated with wars like the Great Patriotic War. It marked the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany.
Ambassador Podyolyshev expressed gratitude to Nigeria, stating, “Nigeria’s support for the UN resolution combating the glorification of Nazism is deeply valued.” The resolution, adopted during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, aims to fight modern-day racism, discrimination, xenophobia, and intolerance.
Highlighting the importance of international collaboration, the Ambassador praised Nigeria’s consistent cooperation with Russia on global issues. He also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s recent partnership with BRICS, foreseeing further opportunities for mutual growth and strengthened ties.
Russia’s acknowledgment of Nigeria’s role reflects the country’s growing influence in global diplomacy, particularly in promoting unity and standing against all forms of discrimination.
