The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to chemical marketers in Kebbi State. They are urged not to sell their products to unknown buyers. The warning was given by Alhaji Muyideen F. Suleiman, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, during a one-day sensitization event in Birnin Kebbi.
The session brought together chemical marketers from all 21 local government areas of Kebbi. These marketers sell industrial chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agro-chemicals.
Suleiman emphasized that before selling such products, marketers must ensure that they are properly listed and certified by NAFDAC. He explained that chemicals like pesticides, fertilizers, and even substances used in soap and cosmetics can be dangerous if misused. Some of these chemicals can be used for harmful purposes if not regulated.
He also highlighted that chemicals like ammonia, urea, and potassium hydroxide found in fertilizers can be hazardous if not handled properly. Suleiman advised marketers to avoid selling these chemicals to unverified buyers, as they could be used to cause harm.
The coordinator stressed the importance of following safety standards and acting responsibly to protect public health and national security. He also reminded marketers that they must follow all regulations and operate safely when handling and storing chemicals.
During the event, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Aji, the Assistant Chief Regulatory Officer, also spoke about the dangers of unregulated chemical marketing. He stressed the need for protective gear and safe storage practices when dealing with chemicals.
The Chairman of the Fertiliser Marketers Association, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Ciroma, thanked NAFDAC for the important event and assured that the members of the association would follow the guidelines and regulations.
This initiative by NAFDAC helps ensure that chemicals are sold and used safely, protecting both the environment and the public.
