Popular Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, has taken his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, to court over a serious money issue. Peter is accusing Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, of fraud involving over N1.38 billion.
The case is currently in front of Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Jude is facing seven charges, including money laundering. One of the charges claims that Jude used N850 million to buy a property in Ikoyi, using money suspected to be from illegal sources. Jude has pleaded not guilty.
While testifying, Peter explained how P-Square started in 1997 and how things fell apart over money. He said that Jude was the only one who had access to their bank accounts and financial records. This made it difficult for him to track earnings from their music.
Peter also mentioned that he had no access to the music “backend” (which shows how much money songs are making). He discovered a company called Northside Music Limited, which had similar details to their original company. But this new company was secretly owned by Jude and his wife.
When Peter asked for details, Jude refused to provide them. Even Paul, his twin and music partner, seemed unwilling to get involved. Eventually, Peter managed to work with a new music platform and started receiving payments again. He was paid $22,000, but he soon realized the records had been tampered with, and the earnings were far less than expected.
After doing some research, Peter found that Jude’s wife owned 80% of Northside Music, and Jude owned 20%. Feeling betrayed and shut out of his own business, Peter decided to take legal action.
This family conflict has added another chapter to the ongoing drama within the P-Square group. Many fans are now watching to see how the case will unfold in court.
