”We stand with Fubara”- Rivers Women stage protest over the declaration of a state of emergency and suspension of Gov Sim Fubara

A large group of women in Rivers State came out to protest against the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in the state. They were also unhappy about the suspension of their governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The women dressed in black and wore traditional wrappers. They marched through the main roads, holding signs that showed their support for Governor Fubara. Some of the signs read “Bring Back Fubara” and “We Support Fubara.”

On March 18, President Bola Tinubu announced a State of Emergency in Rivers State. As part of the decision, he suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all the elected members of the state’s House of Assembly for six months.

During a national speech, President Tinubu explained that the move was due to ongoing political problems, security threats, and violations of the constitution in the state.

To take over the running of the state, the President appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas as the sole administrator. Ibas was Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff between 2015 and 2021.

The women protesting believe that Governor Fubara is being treated unfairly and are asking for his return to office.
