Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has asked nursing students in the state to stay and work in Enugu after graduation. He said this will help stop the loss of trained health workers from the state.

The governor spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, during the 2024/2025 Matriculation Ceremony at the Nursing College in Enugu on Thursday, April 10.

He said the state is spending a lot of money to train nursing and midwifery students. So, he appealed to the students to give back to the state by working in its healthcare system after graduation.

Governor Mbah explained that the “japa syndrome” (where people leave the country for better opportunities) goes against the state’s goals. He noted that the government has invested heavily in education and health, especially in the 2024 and 2025 budgets.

He added that the government is working to make healthcare jobs in the state more attractive, so that trained nurses will want to stay and serve their communities.
