Nigerian singer Wani has stirred controversy after saying he couldn’t have tolerated Peter Obi’s voice as president. Peter Obi, who ran for president in the 2023 elections under the Labour Party, is known for his calm and serious tone when speaking.
Wani took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to express his opinion, writing:
“I don’t think I could have tolerated Peter Obi’s voice for 8 years man! He’s on point though… on paper.”
His post quickly went viral and attracted strong reactions from fans and supporters of Peter Obi. Many criticized Wani for making such a comment, saying it was disrespectful and unnecessary.
One user replied, “Worst mistake to make as an artist is to air out political views.”
Wani responded, saying, “What political view? I just don’t like the way he talks. Is that a crime?”
Another user asked, “What does his voice have to do with anything?”
Wani stood his ground, replying, “His voice is annoying in my opinion. How this became a political debate, I don’t know. Ask those people.”
Some Peter Obi supporters went further, calling for people to stop streaming Wani’s music and cancel his career. One person tweeted, “No streams for you, no tour, no career. You’re cancelled.”
Another wrote, “You’ve had all the chances in Lagos since 2016, and you still haven’t made it. Keep making music only your friends listen to.”
Despite the backlash, Wani has not deleted his post and seems to be standing by his opinion.
