NFF to Sanction Victor Osimhen for Misconduct

Victor Osimhen is expected to face disciplinary action from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) soon.

The forward is set to be charged for improper behavior after verbally attacking former national team coach Finidi George, as reported by Vanguard.

Finidi, who resigned last Friday following the NFF’s decision to hire a foreign coach, was criticized by Osimhen. The Napoli striker was upset about rumors that the coach had questioned his dedication to the national team.

Osimhen was vocal about his reasons for missing the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic. Nigeria drew 1-1 with South Africa and lost 1-2 to Benin, resulting in a drop to 5th place in their group, four points behind leader Rwanda.

“The NFF president Ibrahim Muse Guseu has already spoken to Osimhen about his outburst, and Finidi also reached out to him. Unfortunately, Osimhen reacted to a fake and misleading report without verifying it first,” an NFF board member told Owngoal Nigeria.com.

“Osimhen is a role model, and to help the new coach establish authority, we need to use him as an example. His reaction was inappropriate, and even after Finidi called to explain, Osimhen didn’t retract his statements. We won’t tolerate this behavior. After the Salah break, we will address the issue, and I can confirm he won’t be part of the team until he apologizes,” the board member concluded.
