Former Arsenal captain William Gallas has questioned Mikel Arteta’s decision to sign Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea. He believes Arteta is not a top-class coach because he does not properly use the players he signs.
Sterling recently delivered a man-of-the-match performance in Arsenal’s Champions League win against PSV. However, Gallas feels the winger has not been given enough chances in the team.
Speaking to Prime Casino, Gallas said, “Arteta signs players but keeps them on the bench. Why sign them if you won’t use them? He brought in Sterling, but everyone knew he was not the same player he was at Liverpool and Manchester City. Yet, Arteta never gave him real opportunities.”
Gallas also pointed out that Arsenal’s key players are tired because Arteta does not rotate the squad. He believes this has affected Sterling’s confidence.
“That’s why I say Arteta is a good coach but not top-class or world-class,” Gallas added.
Arsenal will face Sterling’s parent club, Chelsea, in the Premier League on Sunday.
