Give My 4 Daughters A Chance, Don’t Let Natasha’s Issues Stand In The Way

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has openly criticized Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) over her approach to a political dispute, warning that her actions could make it harder for women to be appointed to high-ranking positions.

During a Senate session, Akpabio expressed frustration with how Akpoti-Uduaghan handled the issue. He claimed she first brought the matter to the Senate but took it to court before allowing any discussions. Then, without waiting for a court decision, she raised the issue at the international level.

Using an example, Akpabio compared the situation to a hypothetical case in the United States, saying that if similar allegations were made against former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, it could prevent women from being considered for such positions in the future.

Despite his criticisms, Akpabio urged politicians to continue supporting women in politics, including his four daughters. “I have four daughters, and I want to plead with politicians to still give them and other women a chance. The mistakes of one person should not be used to punish others,” he said.

Akpabio also criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan for taking the matter to international platforms, particularly at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) event in New York. He accused her of misrepresenting Nigeria and praised Rt. Hon. Kafilat Okpara for countering her claims.

Meanwhile, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken legal action against Akpabio and three others for allegedly ignoring a court order. She filed a contempt charge in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025, arguing that the Senate defied an ex-parte order issued on March 4 by Justice Obiora Egwuatu. The court had ruled that any action taken against her while the case was pending would be invalid.

Despite the court order, the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months over alleged misconduct. They also sealed her office
