Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the party. He said APC should have expelled him, which would have saved him from having to explain his decision to leave.
El-Rufai recently joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) because he no longer agrees with APC’s current direction. In an interview with BBC Hausa, he expressed disappointment with the party’s leadership, saying they had abandoned the original progressive ideas of its founders.
He stated that he did not leave the APC, but rather, the party left him. According to him, if APC had expelled him, it would have made things easier for him.
“What next?” El-Rufai said. “I quit their party and challenged them to eat the party if it is food.”
His exit from APC highlights growing dissatisfaction among some former party members. Many will now be watching to see how his political future unfolds in the SDP.
