The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has strongly criticized Tony Okocha, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, over his demand for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resign or face impeachment.
Okocha made this demand in a press conference on March 10, giving Governor Fubara 48 hours to step down.
He accused the governor of mismanaging the state and claimed that the Supreme Court’s verdict suggested there was no functional government in Rivers State. He also alleged that the governor had committed offenses that could lead to impeachment.
However, the PDP dismissed Okocha’s statement as baseless. Sydney Tambari Gbara, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, said that Okocha was irrelevant in the state’s politics.
He described Okocha as someone known for making contradictory and illogical statements that do not reflect reality.
Gbara argued that Okocha failed to provide valid reasons for calling for the governor’s resignation or impeachment. He also claimed that people in Rivers State no longer take Okocha’s comments seriously because of his past behavior.
The PDP further stated that Okocha was only trying to please his political sponsors and urged the public to ignore his ultimatum.
Gbara reassured Rivers residents that Governor Fubara was fully in control of the state and focused on commissioning new projects rather than paying attention to distractions.
