Police rescue 27 trafficked foreigners held hostage in Lagos apartment

The Lagos State Police Command has saved 27 foreigners who were allegedly trafficked and kept against their will in an apartment in the Isheri Oshun area of Lagos.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin shared this update on Monday, March 10, 2025. He explained that the victims were tricked into coming to Nigeria with false job promises.

One of the victims managed to contact the police Complaint Response Unit and reported that she and others were trapped inside the apartment. She said they were not allowed to leave.

After receiving the call, the police quickly took action. The Divisional Police Officer in the area led a team to the location. When officers arrived, they broke into the apartment and found 27 foreigners inside.

The rescued individuals included 18 men and nine women. Some of them were from Ghana, while others came from the Republic of Benin.

The police are now investigating whether Lagos was their final destination or if they were being taken to another country. However, the most important thing is that they are now safe and under police protection.

The Lagos State Police Command continues to work against human trafficking and urges people to be cautious of fake job offers.
