Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has banned loud preaching in markets, saying it causes noise pollution and disturbs traders and residents. He announced that anyone caught using loudspeakers in public spaces, especially in markets, will be fined ₦500,000
A video circulating on social media shows Soludo confronting a street preacher at a market. He told the preacher to stop disturbing traders and suggested preaching in a church or renting an open space. According to the governor, those interested in hearing the message will seek out the preacher in a proper place of worship.
While speaking to traders, Soludo stated, “If you want to preach, go to your church. You are causing noise pollution here. Markets are not for worship.” He emphasized that forcing people to listen to preaching in public places is not acceptable.
Soludo made it clear that anyone attempting to turn a public space into a church will be fined ₦500,000. He explained that noise pollution harms people’s health and will not be tolerated.
The governor also warned against fake pastors and prophets, saying the government is taking action to stop their activities. He assured traders and residents that the new rule will be enforced to maintain order in markets and other public places.
With this new policy, the Anambra State government aims to create a more peaceful environment for traders and residents. The ban on loud preaching in markets is part of a broader effort to reduce noise pollution and maintain public order.
