Two Nigerian men, Ihejimba Bright Chimezie and Azubuike Chdiebere David, were arrested in Bangkok for alleged drug trafficking. Their arrest followed an investigation that began after a Thai woman was caught smuggling cocaine into Japan.
The woman was caught carrying 59 small packets of cocaine, weighing nearly 700 grams. The drugs were worth around 2.1 million baht. She told investigators that she was in a relationship with one of the Nigerian men in Bangkok.
Japanese authorities informed Thai officials about the case. Thai immigration and drug control officers tracked the men to a condominium in the Kannayao district and arrested them.
Both men had overstayed their visas and are now facing immigration charges. Authorities are still investigating their possible involvement in drug smuggling.
