Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has shared her thoughts on the harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The controversy started on February 20 during a disagreement over seating arrangements in the Senate. Later, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of making unwanted advances toward her, claiming her problems began when she rejected him.
She submitted a formal complaint, but the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges dismissed it, citing legal limitations and procedural issues.
Speaking about the issue, Mrs. Tinubu said she believes the Senate is handling the matter properly. She emphasized that the Senate is a respected institution and that such incidents should not be happening.
“We shouldn’t be hearing things like that. It’s a matured chamber, and it should be treated with respect,” she stated.
She also advised women to carry themselves with dignity, suggesting that they should set boundaries to avoid inappropriate interactions.
Mrs. Tinubu further encouraged Nigerian women to keep striving for excellence, acknowledging the progress they have made. She also urged the youth to believe in their abilities and work hard to succeed.
The discussion around this controversy continues, with many watching how the Senate will handle such sensitive issues in the future.
