Nigerian chess master and founder of Chess In Slums, Tunde Onakoya, has opened up about a tough decision he recently made. He revealed that he turned down a massive financial offer, even though it could have transformed his life.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Onakoya explained that he didn’t reject the offer because it was entirely wrong, but because it didn’t align with his values and personal vision. He emphasized that integrity is more important to him than wealth.
The 30-year-old chess player admitted that it was a difficult choice. He struggled with the decision and even tried to justify accepting the money. However, in the end, he chose to stay true to himself.
“I recently turned down life-changing money. Not because it was exactly wrong, but it did not align with my values or the vision of who I’m becoming,” he wrote.
He further shared that making this choice has given him a sense of freedom. “Integrity is the real wealth,” he added, expressing that he now feels more empowered than ever.
Onakoya also expressed gratitude to @OgaBoxx for supporting him through this challenging time, helping him stay grounded amidst the chaos.
His story serves as a reminder that success isn’t just about money—it’s about staying true to who you are and what you believe in.
