Odumodublvck alleges ‘high level of stream manipulation’ in Nigerian music industry

Popular Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has raised concerns about fake music streams in the Nigerian music industry. He claims that many artists and their teams are involved in “stream farming,” a practice where streams are artificially boosted to make a song appear more popular.

The rapper believes this manipulation is pointless because it does not lead to real success. He pointed out that despite high streaming numbers, many artists struggle with low concert ticket sales and fewer bookings both locally and internationally.

Taking to social media, Odumodublvck wrote:

“There’s a high level of stream farming going on in the Nigerian music industry. Farming is crazy cause it’s not translating into shows. It’s not translating into bookings and ticket sales home and abroad. So, what’s the point?”

Another Nigerian rapper, Blaqbonez, has also spoken out against fake streams. He has repeatedly accused some artists of using streaming farms, especially on Apple Music Nigeria charts, to boost their rankings unfairly.

However, music executive Don Jazzy dismissed these claims in a 2023 interview. He stated that streaming farms do not exist and that Nigerian artists are not using such methods. Despite this, allegations about stream farming keep surfacing from both industry insiders and music fans.

The debate over fake streams in the Nigerian music industry continues, with many questioning whether streaming numbers truly reflect an artist’s popularity.
