Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak was one of the victims of a gang of burglars who carried out multiple high-value break-ins, a court has heard.
The Swedish footballer’s home in Northumberland was broken into in April last year. Police reported that a vehicle was stolen from the property but was later found abandoned in a nearby area.
Prosecutors revealed that Isak was the third victim of the gang. Earlier, they had stolen jewelry, clothes, and other valuables worth over £1 million from a local businessman. Another burglary in Sunderland saw designer items and cash worth over £100,000 stolen.
The court heard that three family members involved in the crimes have admitted to conspiracy to commit burglary. They are Giacomo Nikolov, 28, Jela Jovanovic, 43, and her son Charlie Jovanovic, 23—all living in Italy. However, a fourth suspect, 32-year-old Valentino Nikolov from Birmingham, denies the charges and is currently on trial.
Prosecutor Dan Cordey stated that the gang arrived in the UK by ferry from Calais to Dover in March. They first traveled to London before heading to the north-east of England, where the burglaries took place.
The burglary at Isak’s home reportedly happened around 10 PM on a Thursday. When police responded, they deployed a helicopter, but the suspects had already escaped.
Valentino Nikolov, who is representing himself in court, requires an Italian interpreter. Meanwhile, his co-accused family members have already pleaded guilty.
The trial is still ongoing, and further updates are expected.
