Lagos Speakership tussle: Obasa appreciates Meranda, Osoba, Bisi Akande, GAC

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has expressed gratitude to his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, for her loyalty during his leadership crisis.

Obasa was removed from office in January over allegations of misappropriation, and Meranda was sworn in as his replacement. However, he argued that the impeachment process was not legally followed. In February, he returned to the Assembly, forcefully entered the Speaker’s office, and declared himself the rightful Speaker.

Following discussions outside the Assembly complex, Meranda resigned, and Obasa was reinstated to his former position.

During a plenary session, Obasa thanked Meranda for her support and praised leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for facilitating his return.

He specifically appreciated former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Obasa also acknowledged Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, Attorney General Lawal Pedro, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.

Speaking at the session, Obasa emphasized that the Assembly remains strong and capable of resolving its internal matters in the interest of the institution and the party.
